The flattest way to add bass 

At 73 mm deep, it fits where even a shallow sub can’t. 

A conventional 8″ sub needs well over 100 mm behind the baffle, and even a shallow one usually wants more than this. The BA8D2S needs 73 mm. That’s flat enough for the awkward, shallow spaces cars are full of — under-seat trays, false floors, door cavities, boot-side panels — where the width is there but the depth isn’t. It’s the sub for the install that’s already ruled everything else out. 

A proper sub, not a compromise driver 

It’s a genuine 8″ subwoofer, slimmed down — not a mid-woofer doing sub duty. 

Flat doesn’t mean thin-sounding here. There’s a full 8″ cone with 214 cm² of area, 6.5 mm of controlled excursion, and 200 watts of power handling behind an injection-moulded cone that shrugs off the damp and heat of a boot. It’s built to do the sub’s job — the low end you feel rather than just hear — within a frame that happens to be flat, instead of being a general-purpose driver asked to fake it. 

Wire it to any amp 

A dual 2-ohm voice coil matches whatever amplifier you run. 

Two 2-ohm coils give you a 1-ohm mono load in parallel, a 4-ohm mono load in series, or independent connection across two channels — so it suits just about any monoblock or bridged amp, with the 1-ohm option there for the current-hungry ones. 

A coil built to take the power 

A four-layer copper coil on an aluminium former handles the power and the heat. 

The voice coil is wound in four layers of copper on an aluminium former — the same approach as the bigger BlackAir subs. The four layers give it grip and power handling for its size, and the aluminium former carries heat out of the windings, so a small driver working hard doesn’t compress and go soft. It’s driven by a ferrite motor sized to keep the cone under control through its travel. 

A slim box, honest output, and how it fits 

It wants only a small sealed box — and it’s honest about what a flat sub can do. 

Its equivalent compliance volume (Vas) is just 10.6 litres, so it’s happy in a small sealed box, which suits the tight builds it’s made for. And we’ll be honest about the trade: a flat 8″ moving 6.5 mm doesn’t hit like a full-depth 10″ or 12″ — it handles 200 watts, not 800, and its output is modest by design. If you have the room, a bigger, deeper sub does more. But when your only space is 73 mm deep and 183 mm across, this gets you real bass where the alternative was none. It drops into a 183 mm cut-out on a steel basket with push terminals, and gets on with it.
